1 object, 2 moods
June 4, 2008What I’d Take With Me
June 3, 2008If I were in a situation where I had to leave my home and I didn’t have much time to pack, the most important thing for me to make sure I had would be all my teddy bears. I would take these because each one of them were a gift to me and they all represent someone in my life that cares about me and for that reason I treasure them more than many of my other possessions.
Creating Mood in Photos
May 30, 2008When taking a photo the three ways I think you can create your desired mood are:
- The angle of the camera when you’re taking the picture
- The lighting (florescent, outdoor, back-lighting) and color settings of the photo (color or black & white)
- The surroundings of the object
Edward Tufte’s Design Concepts
March 10, 20081. When presenting data assume that you have an intelligent audience. Don’t attempt to present information in a “dumb” way because this doesn’t allow people to use their abilities to get the most out of the data.
2. Don’t use graphics to decorate a few numbers, by doing this the audience’s attention isn’t focused on the information that you’re trying to relay. Instead the designs and pretty pictures is what their eyes are fixed on.
3. Provide the audience with real and accurate data. Ranking products by saying better and worse are not a good idea unless you’ve taken into account all the different factors that set one thing apart from or above another.

Waking Life
February 26, 2008In the movie I got the illusion that things were moving because of how the shadows moved from place to place as the figures moved and how things appeared, moved across the screen, and then disappeared in scenes like when the boy was on the train. I also got the sense of illusion because the animation just seemed to be more like real life and not like a cartoon and people in real life move.
I think the director decided to go with animation instead of filming real people because by animating something you can bring more life to it than you could with just a person on screen reciting lines. Also, I believe that they felt the animation would hold the audiences attention better than actual actors.
